Demise of a Great Social Work Icon from India, Professor Vimla Nadkarni.

  Professor Nadkarni has distinguished herself in the field of Social  work, both in  academia and the practice of social work.  She is recognized for her exemplary leadership in the 

International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) steering the IASSW to become an effective organization in promoting academic excellence.

Professor Nadkarni has visited the University of Nairobi twice, and in her last visit presented a paper at the International Social Work symposium held at the UoN Towers.

Presenter: Prof. Attiya Waris is the Director of Research, Innovation and Enterprise at the University of Nairobi. She holds a PhD in Law and is a specialist in Fiscal Law, Policy and Development; She is an advocate, company secretary and arbitrator teaching at the Law School, University of Nairobi, Kenya, the Law School, University of Rwanda and the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria. She has researched and published on African, Asian, European as well as Latin American issues.

Honoring Emeritus Prof. Amb. Judith Mbula Bahemuka

This Symbol of Honor was presented to Emeritus Prof. Amb. Judith Mbula Bahemuka on 29th April 2021 during a virtual event organized in her honor by the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) and the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair. Prof. Bahemuka taught and mentored many students at the Department of Sociology and Social Work before being appointed to head the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair. She retired from the University of Nairobi in November 2020. We wish Prof. Bahemuka God’s blessings as she begins a new chapter of her lifeThis Symbol of Honor was presented to Emeritus Prof. Amb.

Dr. Mold Pitches for Continental Free Trade Agreement

The African Continental Free Trade Agreement offers hope of a revival of both regional and intra-African trade to boost trade and development in Eastern Africa.
This was the overarching message during Dr Andrew Mold’s IDS seminar presentation on the potential impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Eastern Africa region and the next steps concerning implementing the agreement.

UoN Students Tour to United Nations

The University of Nairobi Students from the Department of Literature, Soka University Students on exchange programme toured the United Nation lead by the Chair Dept of Literature Dr. Masumi Odari. The guided tour offers an exciting opportunity for students to discover UN Headquarters, the tour guide took students on a brief journey through the corridors of international diplomacy to learn about the history and work of the United Nations, they visited the famous General Assembly Hall and Security Council Chambers.
