Department Staff Teambuilding Retreat at the Limuru Countru Club

The Department of Sociology, Social Work and African Women Studies held a retreat on 28/01/2023 at the Limuru Country Club.  The Vice Chancellor, and Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) graced the event.

The retreat’s objectives were to promote staff informal interactions and to reflect on the department’s activities and vision. Professor Wairire, the department Chair, and Professor Nzioka the immediate former Chair, led the staff in reflection and emphasized the need to: overcome invisible fences that hinder staff from achieving their institutional mandate and personal academic goals, create harmonious genuine relationships,  change attitude for improved productivity, build internal and external collaborations, and to embrace technology in a changing world.

The Dean, Professor Jack Odhiambo, lauded the department for this retreat initiative that would lead to improving the quality of work in the faculty.

On his part, the VC encouraged members of staff to focus more on research and build research collaborations noting that the research portfolio of the University had expanded in the last few years and surpassed Module II teaching.

As a day set aside for informal interactions, members engaged in various teambuilding activities, including a nature walk in the expansive Club.
