Overview
The MA programme shall cover a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of eight (8) semesters for full time students and a maximum of ten (10) semesters for part time students. Each semester shall consist of fifteen (15) weeks. Each course unit shall be covered by 45 contact hours. Each candidate will be allowed to take a minimum of two (2) units and a maximum of six (6) units in one semester. Prior to embarking on the research project, the candidate shall be required to successfully take and pass 12 approved course units, of which 10 are core units and 2 electives. The research project shall be undertaken in the third or fourth semester and shall be equivalent to four (4) taught course units. A student shall required to submit a proposal during the first semester of the second academic year of study.

The MA program shall consist of course work, examination and research project. The coursework shall be a minimum of twelve (12) units and research project equivalent to four (4) course units.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the MA Programme:
The common regulations for the master’s degree of the University of Nairobi shall apply. In addition, eligible student must be holders of the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree of the University of Nairobi of Upper Second Class Honours or any other equivalent institution recognized by Senate.
- A Bachelor’s degree of Lower Second Class Honours of the University of Nairobi or any other equivalent institution recognized by the Senate with at least two years of work experience in a related field.
- A Bachelor’s degree at lower second class honors or pass degree and a postgraduate diploma from the University of Nairobi or any other institutions recognized by Senate.
- A pass degree from the University of Nairobi or any other institution recognized by the University Senate with at least five years of work experience in a related field or with a Post-graduate Diploma.
Any other specific equivalent qualifications that may apply to the area of specialization
