Kalamazoo Exchange Students Community Outreach Activities
PDF version

Every year the Kalamazoo College Exchange students travel to Bondo in Siaya County on an educational tour.  The tour is part of the Geographies of Development Course.  This course is intended to give students an understanding of “development” in Kenya and is part of their experiential learning during their study abroad.  The course aims at looking at development in “reverse” from the more Westernized urban areas like Nairobi to the disadvantaged rural communities in Kenya.  The highlight of the upcountry tour is a one day work camp where the students join pupils and local community members in rehabilitating classrooms. Over the years the students have participated in work camps in a number of schools including; Ugadhi Primary School, Agwara Primary School, Goma Primary School, Masita Primary School and Agwara Secondary School.
