Tonny Lokinei a 3rd year University of Nairobi student who is currently on a 9-month fellowship at Kalamazoo College in Michigan USA attended a conference at Yale University from 14-16th April 2017. The conference is organised every year by Yale Association for African Peace and Development (YAAPD) a resident group of Afro-American Cultural Centre at Yale University. The group seeks to develop networks among students and professionals across a spectrum of fields and interests with the aim of promoting peace and development in Africa.
The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Ubuntu: Collaboration for African Development' with discussions focussing on the new era of African education; entrepreneurship and innovation; women, and government and social justice. The keynote address was given by Mr. Donald Kaberuka, 7th President of the African Development Bank. The panellists included among others; Her Excellency Samira Bawumia, 2nd Lady of the Republic of Ghana; Prof. Mathilde Mukantabana Rwanda Ambassador to the US and non-resident Ambassador to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina; Mr Robert Katende who is the man behind the success of Ugandan chess champion Phiona Mutesi;
